Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) happens when blood circulation slows down in your legs, causing clots deep in the veins. If you’re not moving much after surgery or during rehab, the chances of DVT increase. In fact, DVT is a leading reason that patients are readmitted to the hospital post-orthopedic surgery.
No one wants to lose muscle strength or functionality, but long-term injury or surgery recovery can result in muscle atrophy. It’s a common challenge, but minimizing muscle atrophy and maintaining or regaining functionality is possible with neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES).
NMES devices can be used during rehabilitation to help improve muscle strength, prevent muscle atrophy, enhance circulation, and more. The electrical stimulation mimics the signals that the central nervous system sends to the muscles, causing muscle contractions to keep muscles engaged.
